friday five

14/07/2003

I’m doing my Friday Five on a Monday in hopes of today magically turning into Friday. I don’t think it’s going to work. Here it is anyway.

1. Do you remember your first best friend? Who was it?
Yeah.. Nae-Nae… also known as Danae, my next door neighbor in Philly. I think we got in fight one time.

2. Are you still in touch with this person?
Nope, not since we left Philly back in ‘89. I did see her family, still living in the same house, when I went back there for Thanksgiving last year.

3. Do you have a current close friend?
Of course, Jonathan. Also known as my other half. We’re attached at the un-hip.

4. How did you become friends with this person?
Actually, I switched high schools my junior year. His best friend at the time was the first friend I made at El Camino. Her name’s Natalie. She introduced me to Jonathan. Natalie hates seafood, and Jonathan and I love sushi. We bonded over all-you-can-eat sushi. Needless to say, I ousted her out of her bestfriend position and she’s sorta hated me ever since. But that’s okay.

5. Is there a friend from your past that you wish you were still in contact with? Why?
Umm… not really. I think people come in and out of your life for a reason. Some just aren’t meant to stay. They effect you how ever they need to effect you, and they move on. You can’t hold on to things forever. As are friends…

…eventful weekend, sorta

13/07/2003

why i always gotta be designated driver? dang… why holly always gotta baby sit the people she invite to the club. no more, dammit. the “girl” (if being 36 years old still counts as being a girl) was drunk pissy, and 2 minutes away from leaving with one of the strippers. i swear, i shoulda let her. lord have mercy. i’m sick of these folks. i’m doing some late spring cleaning, and gettin’ rid of all these negative mucka puckas in my life. she one of ‘em. … unless i’m not tryin’ to roll up in a club by myself. she’s my only girlfriend in close proximity that’s over 21. way over 21. this “born-again single freshly divorced” behavior is just not flyin’ with me.
anyway. i saw some old high school friends today. my very first boyfriend, in particular. he’s changed. i guess we all have. needless to say, we kept it straight ghetto o’side style and played dominos all day. no 40’s, this time… it was dre’s “welcome home” party / “dre’s mom’s excuse to have a party and invite her “chuch” (that’s church, y’all..) friends”. the dranks were kept to Mountain Dew Code Red and Sprite. You know it’s a serious church crowd when they playing “Bible Trival Pursuit”. My answer was always Judas. I don’t think they appreciated that. Go ahead and give me negative karma points for that one. I probably deserve it.
All in all, had a good weekend. it’s hotter than an elephants ass right now though. I’m tryin’ to sleep but I keep waking myself up with Nelly’s “Hot in Herr” in my head. bastids.

…and so it begins.

10/07/2003

My first blog. Blogger free. As we celebrate this new beginning, we’ll speak of new beginnings. Way back in 1982, a miracle occured. Yes, folks… I was born. As with the birth of every child, comes a name. That name was Holly. I’ve learned that I received that name because my aunt had a child who died, and she was going to be named Holly. Recently, I’ve learned another facet to that story. Apparently, the tradition for my father’s side of the family is that the first female child born is to carry the family name : Eartha. And every first born male gets the name Earl. I, being the second child, lost the “opportunity” (note: sarcasm) to carry the family name. My sister received that honor. Someone on my father’s side of the family got the not-so-bright idea to name me after my father – Earl – but give it a “feminine” touch. How in the world you could ever give the name Earl a feminine touch, I don’t know. But my name was supposed to be Earlene. Earlene. I think I would have died. Til this day, I would be harboring some unspoken bitter resentment toward my mother.. and I’d be rockin’ my middle name like it was cool. Earlene. I’d be drop kickin’ people left and right. Roundhousin’, even. earlene. that’s just mean.
