Happy birthday Mattie!!

22/09/2003

mattieSo, Matt is 21 today. He finally made it. Sure, he’s allergic to everything he could possibly do on his 21st birthday, but the point the point is now, if he *could do them, he would be able to do so legally.
Matt’s really tall. So the chairs we have in the office are uncomfortable for him. At any given time, you can look into his office and see his legs behind his head and his fingers typing away. This image is just one of the many that I’ve captured of Mattie contorting his body so that he can cold-call comfortably.
Thanks for being my lunch buddy, Mattie. You’re my favorite Matt. (That’s “Emm, Aye, Tee, Tee… yeah, Matt”)

friday fiving

1. Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why?
It’s impossible to narrow it down to one, but Stevie and Prince are the staples in my collection.

2. What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why?
I absolutely hate T.A.T.U. There’s something about russian lesiban girls kissing on stage and pretending that they actually create real music that bugs me.

3. If your favorite singer wasn’t in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person?
Who, Stevie? Yeah, he’s cool peoples. Prince might be too arrogant for me, but I’d still kick it with him. He’s a little freaky… just like I like ‘em.

4. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show?
I’ve been to a few… Smokin’ Grooves a couple years ago (the Roots, Lauryn, Outkast, Truth Hurts, J5), Dave Matthews a couple times, Floetry… but by far, my favorite has been Musiq Soulchild. He killed it. Just rocked out. I couldn’t believe it. Outkast comes in a close second, they were off teh hook live.

5. What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from dowloading free music?
I download songs (oh shush, like you don’t). I like to say that I download songs and if I like ‘em I go buy the album, but that’s not true. You gotta earn my money, ’cause I had to earn it. Half the time Jonathan would buy the CD and I would just burn it. I think the last CD I bought was Talib Kweli (Quality) and Donnie (Welcome to the Colored Section). Usually, you gotta be damn good in order to get my money. Buying Stevie or Prince or Musiq or Donny isn’t a problem. I’ll (as jonathan would say) throw down for those. All you otha suckas gettin’ d/l’ed.

my element

15/09/2003

i’ve found my element. this weekend was the black business expo with my compadres from O2, and even though I was doing what most people would consider “grunt work”, I had a blast. not only was i surrounded by beautiful men, but i’ve never been around so many positive and energetic people in my life. i was just waiting for one of those pretty skinnies to be bitchy and obnoxious, but everyone was so down-to-earth that I couldn’t talk any smack. so, after wearing heels all day and losing feeling in three of my toes, i realized that i was finally in my element. maybe i’ll upload the pics. maybe i won’t. big ups to the men of sbm and onyx, and the partners of O2. you made my weekend at the BBE truly memorable.

where i was

11/09/2003

…two years ago today. i was walking into work (bed bath and beyond back then, working my “only here to keep my discount 5AM-9AM” shift), and my manager carlos said “Did you see the news this morning? A plane crashed into the World Trade Center…”
“… no, I hadn’t heard.”

9AM rolls around and I go home to watch the news with my mom. All day, I watched the news. Tina was scared ’cause she works downtown, so she went home early, if I remember correctly. I don’t think I’ve ever watched that much news in my life. I didn’t watch anything else, partially because news was on EVERY SINGLE STATION. even MTV. my parents had just gotten back from new york a few days before. after september 11th i told them they can’t travel anymore.

so where were you September 11th, 2001?

the new sweater.

9/09/2003

all over the gym are old hairy men that refuse to wear regular t-shirts and opt for the loose-fitting 5 for $10 wifebeaters that you buy at your local swap meet (indoor or outdoor, you choose). so while talking to the receptionists at the gym (in order to avoid doing cardio.. big ups to Mia and Courtney), we’ve decided to market a line of “man sweaters”. we’ll take soft, hairy old guys and shear them like sheep, weave the hairs together and make soft man sweaters. washing would be simple. throw it on before you hop into the shower and use your favorite shampoo and conditioner. We recommend using a leave-in conditioner for maximum softness and to repair split ends.

… and the sad part is, you think i’m completely kidding.

i think it could work. You could dye it any color you would like. Your man sweater can be adapted to any outfit you’re wearing with a simple box of hair color. Each tag on the neck of your soft man sweater would be completely customized:
“DO NOT BLEACH, HANG DRY
WARM IRON IF NECESSARY
10% MICHAEL HAIR
50% LaMONT HAIR
38% BOB HAIR
2% LYCRA SPANDEX”
They come in curly and straight. Fine or Nappy. Investors, contact me.
We’ll talk.

holly’s policy…

4/09/2003

…on sexual harassment. It’s only sexual harassment when the “harasser” is unattractive – other than that, it’s innocent flirting and enjoyable. When said harasser is unattractive, said harasser is seen as a nuisance, and a lawsuit should be filed against said harasser by the “harasee” for having to deal with said harassers harassment.

remind me not to become a techinical writer.

strictly my opinion. cute people flirt and it’s on. ugly people flirt and the police are called.
