…two years ago today. i was walking into work (bed bath and beyond back then, working my “only here to keep my discount 5AM-9AM” shift), and my manager carlos said “Did you see the news this morning? A plane crashed into the World Trade Center…”
“… no, I hadn’t heard.”
9AM rolls around and I go home to watch the news with my mom. All day, I watched the news. Tina was scared ’cause she works downtown, so she went home early, if I remember correctly. I don’t think I’ve ever watched that much news in my life. I didn’t watch anything else, partially because news was on EVERY SINGLE STATION. even MTV. my parents had just gotten back from new york a few days before. after september 11th i told them they can’t travel anymore.
so where were you September 11th, 2001?

I woke up that morning to a voice mail from my mom.. she was tlaking about "…somthing happening in New York." I was suppoused to go to school that morning. I didn’t. I spent all day watching the news. Then I begain to call people.
Feels like that day was close and far. Close like things have changed. Far like my life was very different then too.
That morning I was getting ready for work and received a phone call from my mother in law as it was happening. We turned the news on and a few minutes later saw the second plane crash. It was so unreal and I can’t even believe I made it to work that morning. Your sister and I were glad to leave work early - too bad they took it out of our paid vacation time - BASTARDS.
My friend Christy called telling me to turn on the TV. Warm in my bed with down comforter, I’m asking why. "Someone bombed the World Trade Center and The Pentagon." My heart racing a mile a minute, I run to turn on the TV, and can’t believe what’s happening before my eyes. I catch the second plane hitting the second tower. I wake my roommate to come watch the horror. About five minutes later, I find bloody footprints on the carpet of my apartment. Apparently, admist the excitement, I sliced my foot on a curtain rod laying on the floor, hadn’t noticed, and bled for awhile. I now carry a four inch scar on my right foot. A weird reminder of that morning. The Phone Store (my employer at the time) closed for the day. A somber day off. Trying to make the best of it my friend Noelle and I make the 100 mile drive to Auburn (outside of Sacramento) to go to In-N-Out for a late lunch/early dinner. Hmmmmm. In-N-Out. Double Double w/Onions. Fries….
