big ups to…

12/11/2003

me. i got a new job. Now I’ll be commuting to the “OC”, as my sister likes to call it. Now I feel a little bit like a cliche on a fox sitcom. Orange County, here I come. When I found out i started thinking back about all of the jobs I’ve had.

Subway on Camp Pendleton : almost 3 years I spent here. I got this job because my sister worked here. I started right after I turned 15. Whatever happens, don’t order the Seafood and Krab sandwich. Krab with a “K” is just bad news anyway.

Bed Bath and Beyond: BBB, oh the memories. I think I worked here another 2 1/2 years. I was there on and off, working seasonally sometimes. I would quit and come back because every time they rehired me i got a $0.50 raise. That was back in high school and a couple semesters at miracosta. At one point in the past I was working at bed bath, going to school, and working at one of my current jobs, which is:

Coleman College: started off in as a TA in the CIS department w/ programming students, and switched to a TA in the CGD department for graphic design students. I went from almost full time to two nights a week (currently), because of my other current job, which is:

RWG: which is where I’m leaving in eight days, along with Coleman to go to my new job, which is:

CCi: can’t give you a description since I haven’t actually started yet, but I’m excited.

Right now, at rwg, it’s pretty kick back. i come wearing jeans and flip flops. cci is “business casual”. no flip flops? am I making the right choice? no rolling out of bed to go to work? i don’t know. we’ll see.

…this is not happening… this is not happening… this is not happening…

6/11/2003

wednesday is the only night during the week that kolan and i both have the time to see each other. so of course, we’re gonna see each other. i park in front of his house and go in and watch the simpsons until we figure out what to do for the rest of the night. around 8PM i decide to go home because i’m falling asleep, and kolan needs to watch his Smallville. he walks me outside, and my car is gone. gone. like… not there. at all. i freak out. all i keep saying is “this is not happening… this is not happening… this is not happening…” kolan probably thought i was crazy. i was thinking my car got stolen until one of his neighbors driving by stops and tells us that it got towed, which was a sigh of relief. as long as my baby was okay, i didn’t care how much i had to pay to get it out. as long as it wasn’t stolen i was happy.
so every 20 minutes we had to call the tow company and see if they had my car. finally around 9PM they have it, and we head over to BFE san marcos to get my baby. the lady on the phone said as long as my name was either on the insurance or the registration it wouldn’t be a problem. The registration is in momma’s name… but the insurance bill is in my name, so i’m thankful that the parentals don’t have to get involved.
now we’re at the tow yard, but they have someone go through my car to find my paperwork. the person working the late shift at the tow yard just happens to be a former student at coleman that i used to help. what a small world. but of course, he can’t jsut give me my car… that would be too easy. he returns with all of the paperwork (registration, insurance blah blah blah) out of my car, and EVERYTHING is in my mother’s name. EVERYTHING. So now, i have to call the mom. She’s not that excited about the 25 minute drive to San Marcos at 10PM on a wednesday night, but she and my sister come anyway (thank the Lord). Not exactly the way I wanted my mother and kolan to meet for the first time, but oh well… it happened. Finally I get my baby back, and my mom just keeps giving me that “i can’t believe you pulled me out of bed” look with the “mmmm hmmm ” scolding mother sound. We get back home, and to ease my mother’s worries I tell her kolan’s paying for the tow charges. now she’s just as happy as can be.

…. sigh ….

thanks tina and mommy for coming to my rescue, yet again. thanks kolan for telling me i can park in a no parking zone. lol it’s okay, you’re still my favorite. just get me that louis purse and all will be forgiven.

happy november

3/11/2003

…which means it’s almost happy december, which means it’s almost time for presents. yay!!
holly had an excellent weekend full of pedicures, el torito, costco pizza, deformed carnival bears, window shopping, mad tv/cheaters-watching and texas chain saw massacre-ing. thanks kolan :)

…anywho. everyday after we eat lunch here at work and end up in a “foma” (also known as a food coma the state of tiredness you’re in after lunch), someone makes a trip to starbucks. that someone is usually me (99% of the time). when everyone actually shows up for work, the same 6 drinks are ordered: grande cappucino with 1/2 packet of equal, grande caramel frappucino, 2 iced caramel macchiatos, a regular doppio with cream and an iced doppio with a shot of sugar free vanilla syrup and cream (that’s mine). needless to say, when the guy sees me walk in he says “hey holly… everybody at work today?”. and i say “yeah… we’re in a foma”… to which he responds by marking 6 cups (4 clear plastic for iced drinks, 2 paper for the hot) with “Holly” and starts making my drinks. It’s pretty sad. I guess it’s sorta synonymous with Cheers, where everyone knows your name and how much foam you like on your cappucino. So big ups to the Starbucks on the corner of Rancho Santa Fe and San Marcos Blvd. everyone at holly’s work thanks you for waking them from their fomas.
