Chrismahanukwanzakah Roundup

28/12/2005

I heart presents. Of course, I like giving them too, but I really like getting stuff. It’s fun. Especially when it’s a surprise. In order of appearance:

Tina: My 80GB hard drive that kicks ass. I’d never be able to download all my music and episodes of My Name Is Earl without it. She wanted to save it for Christmas, but I made her give it to me in November :)

Heather: Can never go wrong with a gift certificate to the one store in the world that has absolutely everything. Go Amazon!

Mommy: The Old Navy sweater that I wanted but never got, and a new cell phone (I’m sooo keeping the rebate).

Milton: Cash, bitches! mmmm… cash.

Tina: Felt bad that I didn’t have anything to open on Christmas day, so she got me a card that said “To Holly – The Intimate Woman. Let’s make the jealous ones envy in 2006!!” (The insiders get it), along with $50.

Krissi and The Bacon Patch…sort of like Niccorette, but for bacon lovers.

Tater: Caught me totally by surprise by using my sister as a decoy, and got me a whole mess load of Peach Smints. Scrumtralescent!

Multiply that by 12. I heart smints!

Stephanie: The at home Twinkie Bake Set and Mr. Wonderful. Does it get any better than the perfect man and pastry? I think not! Unless that perfect man pastry was deep fried…

It comes with an injector! I’m using cream cheese.

Christopher: Little bro just got back from Italy two days ago, and got me Italian White Truffle Oil and jams from Harrods. He got me a little blessed figurine from the Vatican, too!

Mom#2: Everything you could ask for in a stocking – from Pez dispensers to a chocolate Santa to french Hot Chocolate (Chocolat Chaud), and a cute little tea light with a butterfly.

Jonathan : Now, Jonathan wasn’t supposed to get me ANYTHING. The plan was just to live it up in Paris when I go out there in April, but nooooo, he had to go and get me something.

Mmmm, Gucci.

It’s Gucci, bitches! Real Gucci. yes, Jonathan went to Italy and got me Gucci. How am I gonna one up that?!

All in all, I had a very blessed holiday. My mom made the best dinner ever, and even though Tina got two of the same pie, we were allllright. Can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Damn you, Officer Yang!

21/12/2005

For the first time since high school, I got a speeding ticket, which is a pretty good run, I think. It was a couple of motorcycle cops right off the freeway, hiding behind a bush with a radar gun. Ain’t that entrapment or something?! So, I was on the phone with Kelly, then this cop walks out intothe street and waves me down… I tell kelly to hold on, then I just hang up on her. (Sorry, Kels). He shows me the radar gun that says I was going 51 in a 35. Ugh. He takes my license and registration back to his bike and I text message Kelly : “I got pulled over.” She sends a message back that says “Evade, bitches! Evade!” Thanks for the advice, Kels.

Now I get to wait in suspense for the next two weeks for the bill to come. But at least now I can afford it :)

Dr. Phil’s

20/12/2005

Kelly came down on Sunday so we could finally watch Harry Potter. We kinda never got around to it, because we went to Phil’s.

Phil’s BBQ is, by far, the best barbecue joint in San Diego. The wait is always at least an hour, but it’s definitely well worth it. To make sure you don’t pull your hair out waiting for your food, they give you a variety of games to choose from. Everything from Trivial Pursuit (sans gameboard) to Dominos. Our game of choice: Othello.

After Kelly whooped my ass in a game she had never played before that day, our little handheld buzzer rang, the food was ready! But before I get to that, here’s the conversation we had at the roompartment before going to Phils.

Kelly: Ooh, pulled pork sandwich! I’m so excited!

Holly: I know, that’s what I wanna get. But I want you to try the ribs, too! Dang!

Kelly: Oh, well, we can just get one of each………… each.

She’s a genius, I tell you!! So we ended up ordering one BBQ Broham Pulled Pork Sandwich each, and splitting a half order of ribs, just so she could try them.

Their potato salad is off the hook, too. Usually I don’t like potato salad unless an old black grandma from the local church group is makin’ it, but they pretty much got it right at Phil’s.

I heart Phil, in all of his tangy barbecue sauce goodness!! I think I flossed my teeth a good 45 minutes afterward. We never did get to see Harry Potter. We were too full to move. Ahhh… Phil’s.

Saints are the specialists!

19/12/2005

Jonathan’s little bro, Chris, is living it up in Rome… across the street from the Vatican, nonetheless. He’s a lucky duck. He’s also going to pray for me:

Christopher: I have been going to church a lot, like visiting churches and praying, not really going to service.

Holly: well, light a candle for me because my rash is back. lol

Christopher: i will pray for you. in the vatican.

Holly: dope! God will definitely hear you then.

Christopher: do you have a favorite saint? they pray to saints here, not to God

Holly: Umm… no, not one in particular

Christopher: Saints are specialists.

Holly: is there a Saint of Skin Rashes?

Christopher: Saint Ives?

So, big ups to lil’ bro Chris for praying for me in one of the most holiest places on Earth. Give the Pope a big “what up” for me.

Reunion

14/12/2005

I finally got together with one of my oldest friends… waaaaay back from middle school. Here’s Gabe:

Holly and Gabe

We listened to some J*Davey, ate some Bronx Pizza, and talked about how I should be writing everything off on my taxes by having public showings of my art work in my apartment, therefore paying myself for the space and being able to write it off. Or something. Can you explain that again Gabe?

Anywho, it was fantastical, scrumtralescent even, seeing my old friend again. So, thanks for initiating the hang out Gabe!! We’lll have to do it again. :) Next time, we meet at Phil’s.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? I opened one last week – thanks for the new hard drive, Krissi!

10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him? Please… cookies are on my Christmas list. He should be dropping some off.

11. Snow? Yeah, he’s cool

12. Can you ice skate? A little bit… as long as i can hold on to that rail along the outside of the rink I’m good.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Probably my Teddy Ruxpin, or the Glow Worm… oh, and that one time Jonathan flew me out to Paris. That was a good gift.

14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Presents, bitches! Oh, and Jesus.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Sweet Potato Chiffon Pie with Candied Pecans

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Eating.

18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving? Giv-ceiving. (I can’t choose)

Copy and repost in the comments. Happy 12 days until Chrismahaunakwanzaka (I think I spell that differently each time).

Mini-Weekend Update

12/12/2005

My company Christmas party was Saturday. It was at a dive bar in a particular spot in San Diego that I hate. Well… I can’t honestly say that I “hate” it, it’s more like… I’m scared of it. It’s not “brown” enough there, and everyone calls each other “bro” or “dude”. But, of course, I went anyway… and I had fun. They made me drink beer (I don’t like Coors Light, btw). Then Jason and Tim came down and introduced me to www.oldmencrying.com. Exactly why it’s funny, I’m not sure… but it is.

Sunday morning, me, Jason, Tim and Kelly met up for breakfast at St. Tropez, where we scared all the white people (including our waiter), critiqued the art on the walls, argued about which is better – pie or cake. Fun was had by all.

And I still haven’t finished/started my Christmahaunakwanzaka shopping. Crap.
