Lately, I’ve been craving ahi sashimi like it’s nobody’s business. Sashimi, however (as all my sushi eaters know) is an expensive habit. It is, essentially, a cocaine habit in fish form. I recently found out that Whole Foods has a very nice sushi/sashimi collection. It’s not your every day supermarket sushi collection of philadelphia rolls and krab stuff. So, I made a trip last night and got almost a pound of sushi grade ahi. It came to about $20, for what would be about $40 worth of ahi at any decent sushi bar or japanese restaurant. Me and Moms cut it up last night and had us some at-home sashimi! It was great, and much cheaper. I could eat tuna/yellowtail/salmon sashimi every night!
I know not all of my loyal reader(s) eat sushi. It was either Josephine or Rommel that first got me into sushi. I think I gagged the first time I had a California roll. That’s what everyone starts with, right? The first time I had wasabi, I was told it was like japanese guacamole. Big mistake. After I stopped crying and my nose hairs grew back, I began to like it again.
Now I can’t even contemplate not having sushi or sashimi. Mmm mmm, bitches!! I know we just turned Krissi on to sashimi. As long as she thinks it’s seared, she’ll eat it (it’s still sashimi, girl). So, what was your first sushi experience? Do you even like sushi? How far will you go? Are you still at cooked stuff like California Rolls or are you the crazy one doing quail egg shooters at the bar with the sushi chef? Answer in the comments. <3

im all about weird fusion rolls. Sushi itto is where i live half the time. somthing about a mexican/japaneese dish…come to think of it that would make a really hot girl too..
Love the new anthem, gurl
It’s all about “The Don”. That was so scrumtiliumtious! That was the most sashimi I ever ate. I really like it at Sushi on the (crack)Rock.
Umm- do the tempura thing. I especially like spicy crab rolls- but I have yet to find them in a real sushi restaruant. I have to eat the costco week old sushi crap. If you can find spicy crab rolls, I am your new best sushi eatin friend.
I am more of a rolls or nigiri type guy.. Gotta have something along with the raw fish even if it is just rice and a piece of seaweed.
