Good Music You Didn’t Know: #2 Steve Spacek

30/05/2006

.noone., being the musical snob that he is, has been tippin’ me off on some really good music lately… particularly Gilles Peterson. I was listening to his radio show, and found Steve Spacek, who is the featured Good Music You Didn’t Know artist.

Check out Dollar. Then listen to Gilles Peterson worldwide… and be happy. I love new music. Discovering new music is my favoritest thing ever.

How you like them apples?

The Friday Four #14 – Back to Basics Edition

26/05/2006

Since it’s been a while, let’s all get reaquainted with basic questions we should probably all know about each other. THat, and I can’t really think of anything to ask since I forgot until this very moment that I vowed to resurrect the Friday Four.

1. What’s your favorite color? Is it the same since childhood?

2. What’s your favorite cheese? Everyone’s got a favorite cheese.

3. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? Say vanilla and die.

4. Morning person or night owl?

Welcome back to Friday.

My Mother is a Genius

25/05/2006

I got home earlier than everyone else yesterday evening, so I started making some ridculously easy Buffalo Chicken Pizza (make it, love it). Every time I’m in the kitchen and the garage door opens, it scares the crap outta me… every time, like I don’t know what it’s gonna sound like. It’s kinda like how Tina would be afraid to open the Pillsbury biscuit canister because it makes that “pop” sound when you’ve peeled back enough of the paper.

Anywho, I go outside to help her with the bags and she shoves a 48 oz 7-11 Big Gulp cup in my face and says “Taste this.” Of course, I say “What is it?” and of course, she says “Just taste it” (we’ve had this conversation many times).

It was… delightful.

- “What is this, mom?!?”

- “I was craving a root beer float… so I went to Coldstone and got some vanilla ice cream, then I went to 7-11, dumped the ice cream in the cup and poured root beer on top.”

Genius, I tell you!! This is the same woman that makes me go to In-N-Out for Double Doubles, then sends me to McDonalds for fries. If I ever open a restaurant, it’ll be based on my mother’s principles – get the best food from the best sources.

Qanvas, J*Davey and an open bar.

17/05/2006

Saturday night was fun shit.

Jonathan’s finally back home and living up in LA for his internship, so I figured I’d kill three birds with one stone and see my buddies in Qanvas (who I met at a JDavey show @ The Roxy, actually) up in Lakewood, swing up to Burbank to get Jonathan and see the fam, then head over to Van Nuys to meet up with Qanvas again and see J*Davey at a house party with an open bar. How fun does that sound? Yes, it was.

I saw Kim, Amber and Wayne do a set at the coffeeshop, then it was time to trek up to Burbank and see the family, where I was force fed home made gnocci and told that I was being adopted by a Korean family. I’m still confused. I was also reunited with Brenton, who only appears in my life when Jonathan is around, because apparently Holly alone just isn’t cool enough.

Jono-face, Brenton (one of my favorite authors), meee

Kim, Amber and Wayne arrived at the house party a few minutes after we did. And of course, we hit up the open bar. More cranberry juice than vodka, but who am I to turn away a free drink? I would have been happy with just straight up juice.

Amber, meeee and Kim

The music was off the hook, the DJ was excellent, but NO ONE was dancing, so of course, we had to set it off.

Git it, guuurl!

J*Davey came on around midnight and did a nice set. I think Amber, Wayne, Kim and I were the only people that knew all the words to all the songs they did. That’s aight though. After the set was done, I ran up to Ms. Jack Davey, told her I drove up from San Diego to see her and asked if I could get a picture because I’m a hella-groupy. She said of course.

I’m cheesin’ HAAAAARD. I was excited. leave me alone.

I didn’t know we were doing “cool model pose look hard” pictures. i was excited. I cheesed. You can see the rest of the pictures here: http://itsholly.shutterfly.com/action

Taco Magic

12/05/2006

We had a party at work last week, and we hired this guy to make us tacos. It was magical.

No, this video hasn’t been sped up. Yes, he threw the salsa back and caught it IN the taco without looking. And yes, he will be catering my wedding.

Jonathan / Adventures in Eating / Robin Thicke

1/05/2006

Here’s my all-in-one blog about the happenings over the last two weeks.

Jonathan
Jonathan finally came back home for a visit on the 15th, and managed to convince Cyril to come with. Since he flew into LAX, we had a par-tay at Uncle Mark and Aunt Tracie’s house. Lots of food was eaten, and the pizza oven was definitely being used.

Tomato Basil Pizza w/ Mascarpone Cheese. Homemade, bitches!

The next day, we went to see Ashes and Snow, and Uncle Mark and Aunt Tracie’s friends took us to Korean Food.

Adventures in Eating
I was told not to even look at the menu, all the food we were to eat was already ordered and would be coming out shortly. How dope is that? Needless to say, the Korean food was the shizzle, regardless of this one little fact:

Look in the window. See the B? Yeah. It’s a B.

I’ve never eaten at a restaurant with a B rating before, but apparently,
Los Angeles + Homestyle Korean Restaurant = B Health Rating. But your mind starts playing tricks on you. If I never saw the B in the window everything would have been fine, but since I saw it, the water started tasting funny. It was the best Kim Chee ever, though.

Robin Thicke
I finally made it to the 20th. It took so loooooong. I was just ridiculously excited to see Robin Thicke. I heart him. I really do. Stephanie likes white men again, all because of Robin Thicke. Even though he only did 4 songs, I was tempted to drive up to the HOB in Hollywood to see him again on Sunday. Il est le shit. Go see Robin Thicke here if you’re a fan (shameless tina plug, you’re welcome).

I really need a better camera phone…

… or figure out a way to sneak my camera into shows.

In conclusion, having Jonathan here was fun, eating at B restaurants isn’t so scary, and Robin Thicke is my future baby daddy (apologies to the current Mrs. Thicke in advance).
