my favorite candy bar

31/05/2007

barcelonabarpop.jpgwords cannot describe how much i love this candy bar, but alas, i will try.

it’s the barcelona bar by vosges. i usually pick one up every time i go to extraordinary desserts. it’s the best thing ever. really. i know i say that a lot, but ask anyone i’ve made try it. they’ll agree whole heartedly.

first of all, after years and years of eating great food, i’ve officially become a foodie, a “food snob”, if you will. a lot of people get the wrong impression of a foodie, thinking they’ll only dine at expensive restaurants or eat exotic food. that’s hardly the case. the fact of the matter is, i only enjoy good, quality food. plain and simple. a good example is chocolate. i absolutely hate hershey chocolate. to me, it taste like a big waxy gob of shit. and it kills me to no end when it’s the only chocolate we have in the office, and i have a craving that just won’t quit. which is why i always keep a barcelona bar in my desk drawer.

i don’t even know how to describe it. it’s not quite dark chocolate, but not as light as milk chocolate. they describe it as “deep milk chocolate”, which is exactly what it is. also included are hickory smoked almonds, as well as grey sea salt. sea salt?! wtf, you ask? it’s not like eating salty chocolate. think of a flavor similar to eating a chocolate covered pretzel, when you get that little crunch of salt every few bites. that’s exactly what it is… little nibblets of salty deliciousness, every few bites. it brings out the flavor in the chocolate to the nth degree. it’s fantastical.

it’s my favorite candy bar.

ucla jazz fest / baby mamas / sunburn

29/05/2007

so, my boy aaron from dujeous performed at the ucla jazz reggae fest this weekend. he tried to hook me up with a pass, but l.a. traffic prevented me from arriving early enough to meet up with him before his set. so sad. so, i just got a regular ticket and haejin and i were on our way to a ridiculous day of hot music, jamaican food and uv rays.

i don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to pull out my camera and take pictures of the one guy i actually know performing. sigh. but i didn’t.

so second up was soulive.

i have to admit, i never really REALLY listened to them before. i have a few tracks here and there. they’re great live.

next up, j*davey. i love them. love them. one of my favorite groups right now – period – which is saying a lot, because i got a lot of music. a LOT.

sometimes i think she need to eat a sandwich. hot, nonetheless.

then, as the bigger acts were coming out, it started to get crowded

next were les nubians. i always rock them in the office. proof once again, music is universal. no one ever thinks “is that french?!” or “wtf are they saying?!” who cares. it’s beautiful.

next… they call him lupe, he’ll be your new day. you wanna smell like him, you want his bouquet.

i was waitin’ for bullets to fly by like the matrix after this move.

and, finally. if i could have a future baby momma, it would be her. if there were a lifetime movie about my life, she would play me. jilly from philly.

after all was said and done, i found that black people, too, can become sunburned.

Highlights in Retrospect : NYC

18/05/2007

1. My subway stop smelled like sizzling bacon, every morning. How you gon’ be mad at that?

2. S’maaaaac: A restaurant that serves ALL macaroni and cheese, ALL day long? How you gon’ be mad at THAT?!?

3. Hiro: We didn’t know Sunday Night was cock night at Hiro. Jenny, Ryan and I went there thinking it was regular ol’ hip hop night, but lo and behold, it was Sausage Fest. Sorry Ryan.

4. World Trade Center – Ground Zero: Much more powerful than I thought it would be. The pictures on display almost brought me to tears. I had to turn away.

5. I got new hair: One of my co-workers recommended Ouidad salon. I had no idea there was a salon that specialized in ONLY curly hair! My hair has been waiting for this for 25 years. I was never taught how to properly style or take care of my hair. Vincent (the best stylist ever) taught me more about my hair in 15 minutes than an entire lifetime of trial and error.

6. Clarione, Daisy’s BBQ and the Red Velvet Cupcake

7. My first baseball game – The Yankees and the Indians

8. The Roof: Damn, I love that rooftop.

9. Meeting AJ: My cousin Angie had a baby 2 years ago, I finally met him when they came up to NYC for the day. He’s my favorite.

10. Rudy’s Bar & Grill: I guess the “grill” was the little hot dog 7-11 rotate-o type device at the end of the bar. Damn, I love Rudy’s.

11. PINKBERRY!!!!!!!!! My one true love. Treats me better than any man could.

12. Central Park

13. John Legend @ Madison Square Garden: One of my co-workers, who I’ll be forever indebted to, got me last minute tickets (literally, last minute – the tickets were in my hand 20 minutes before the show started) to see John Legend. I took Patrick, who I’ve known since I was 15. It was his first real “sit-down” concert. It was my 500th.
