Friday Four #31: Race Wars

I can’t remember what I was watching or listening to, but someone who is a half breed like me said they related to one race more than the other.

I can honestly say that I don’t identify with one side more than the other. I don’t consider myself more Filipino or more black, but in society, I feel I’m considered just black (and have been treated as such on a few occasions).

I can also honestly say that I don’t feel comfortable around all Filipinos or all black people. I like my happy mixed race group of friends, even the Whities (j/k, geez). When in a large group of either race, I almost feel like I don’t belong… or almost judged, I suppose.

With all that said, here’s your Friday Four:

1. Do you identify with race over another?
2. Are most of your friends one race?
3. What’s your favorite ethnic food? (you know i always gotta sneak in a foodie question).
4. Hillary because she’s a woman or Barack because he’s black?

Answer in the comments. Happy Friday.

    1. No, read what I said already. I love Fried Chicken and Chicken Adobo equally.

    2. I guess most of them are white - I guess that’s just me being neutral. lol

    3. Probably Japanese, just because of sushi.

    4. Barack, son. My illogical reasoning:
Black men had the right to vote before white women (1870 vs 1920, respectively), therefore the first non-white male president should be a black man. I think Hillary or Nancy will have their shot in 2016.

    3. I’d have to go with Asian cuisine.

    4. Neither - I pick Oprah. Just kidding. I’m probably going to go with Barack just because I want to see a Black man as president before I leave this earth. I feel the same way about having a woman president but for now I’m leaning more towards Barack.

    1. I guess I “identify” more with white people, however I can’t really establish how. Perhaps of having typical “American” traditions that virtually every race partakes in, but not having some kind of race specific extra to go along with it. I don’t care for Nascar or meth; things “my people” are typically associated with, so perhaps I don’t identify with my own kind either.

    2. My social group is predominately white, however I believe I’ve befriended all three black people in Reno. A Chinese guy, a Mexican guy who looks like he’s from India, a Korean chick. I guess I could be more socially diverse, but due to the race ratios here, I would have to go out explicitly seeking. “Uh, hi, I have a few gaps to fill in my social circle. Would you like to be my token Indian friend?”

    3. Oh, PF Changs. I know - it’s a chain, but I love Americanized Chinese. At a restaurant or making it at home.

    4. I too am a capitalist, so my views are predominately republican, so John McCain has my vote. However, I also do believe that the president’s position has a great deal to do with PR, and how the world views us as a country. Deep down, I won’t be that disappointed should my candidate not win, should either Hilary or Barack take it. I think Barack and Hilary, both well spoken, could serve u very well in the way the world views the US and our involvement as a country in foreign policy.

    1. I identify with who I am most comfortable with. In my case it’s Native Americans and White people. Why? Cause usually when I am around other races, they use other languages and alienate me and those who don’t speak. Being that predominately most white people in this country speak English (to one extent or another) I don’t feel alienated.

    2. I have a wide, wide variety of friends, but most are filipino and white.

    3. Is Italian ethnic?

4.I am up in the air. I would say nay to Hillary cause I’m tired of the oligarchy that the Presidency is becoming. I would say no to Obama cause I don’t have confidence enough in him to lead the country forward. I would have voted for Powell in a heartbeat cause he at least proved his leadership capabilities in Desert Shield. I am undecided at the moment.
