The Friday Four #35: Moving Edition

29/02/2008

As most of you know, it’s been a week since I’ve moved and I’m pretty settled in, except for the crazy lady in 6 that keeps cornering me and telling me not ot leave my detergent in the laundry room because someone has “sticky fingers”. And the fact that my cable has been out for the past two days (damn you, old buildings with old wiring!). It’s a pretty comfortable spot. So, let’s get some movin’ questions in.

1. How many times have you ever moved?
2. What’s your most expensive “new home” purchase?
3. Crazy neighbors? You know you have them. What sort of crazy have you experienced?
4. I have $100K for you to move anywhere in the world for one month. Where you goin’?

Happy Friday, friends. Answer in the comments.

Can you tell I LOVE candles? I do.

Capri Blue : Paris Candle

I first discovered this candle as a housewarming present from my old co-worker Tammy. Thanks Tams! I love this thing. Unfortunately, the one you bought me is running on fumes.

Any one who knows me knows how ridiculously crazy I am about this gel -

Ouidad : Climate Control Gel (Remedy Line)

And anyone with curly hair knows what a PAIN in the arse it is to find something that actually works with the texture of your hair. This stuff is a lifesaver.

I love these candles –

And my phone is busted…

Blackberry : 8800

My Blackberry Pearl has been to hell and back, then back to hell again, then up against my ear.

And by “hell” I mean in and out of my purse gettin’ banged up. Needless to say, my phone game is *not on point, and I need a new one.

I love the fact that is has GPS. And hey, if a few of you want to go in on this gift, that’s fine. I would never hold going halfsies or thirdsies or forthsies against you. But if you guys all gang up and try to split this shit 15 ways, you’re just being cheap (Tina).

Packing, Rain, Unpacking, Toilet Paper.

26/02/2008

So, I’m officially alllll moved into my new place, thanks to my sista and my momma. It’s a bit 70s, but I’ll just call it shabby-chic. You can see pics (pre-furnished) here.

We rented a U-Haul (against my wishes), but it was good idea because it was definitely raining on Friday when we moved everything. Not too hard, just annoying enough to make Tina wipe her glasses down every 10 minutes. I’m still not done unpacking (two more boxes!), but for the most part I’m all settled in.

And I totally forgot the toilet paper. My bad, Tina. (I totally have some now though)

I’ve been fortunate enough not to get too lonely, since I’m a couple blocks away from some of our favorite bars, my friends make sure they stop by. Often. They even sleep over some times.

My fridge is still that of a bachelorettes, which means there are more beverages than actual food and a full supply of fudgesicles in the freezer. Thank you, Jonathan, for introducing me to the beauties of a Hendrick’s Gin Martini. It is a beautiful thing, and very “floral and aromatic”, according to Jonathan. It gets the job done, and that’s all I know. :)

Thanks to everyone for their support and help with the move. I do appreciate it.

I love these Fornarina Nico Boots.

And, if you tell me you’ll get them for me, I’ll hook it up with the employee discount, so you get 35% off! See how generous I am when it comes to receiving birthday gifts?

I know, right?

I like getting presents, and there’s nothing like getting a present that you actually want. And who wants to *guess what you want? That shit is hard. So, to make it easy on all of you guys, I’ve decided to post a “Gift a Day”, so you have a general idea of what I’d like for my birthday, ’cause you know, I’m here for you. But please don’t think it needs to be my birthday for you to purchase something for me. I’m here anytime you feel in the gift-giving mood. Really – I’m here for you.

Let’s get this party started with some necessities.

Dinner Party at Chez Emma

14/02/2008

Emma decided to host a little dinner party at her casa, which I love because that means I can cook and not have to clean up after.

Our friendly host for the evening.

You can’t start a dinner party without opening the vino first. No one had actually arrived yet, but you can’t cook without a glass of wine in your hand, can you? No, you can’t.

Woohoo

The plan was for everyone to bring their “specialty” dish, with me and Emma taking care of the main dishes. Our menu consisted of Emma’s broiled salmon, my infamous warm bacon blue cheese garlic dip, bacon wrapped asparagus, and my fancy penne with shrimp. Let’s get cookin’.

Cuttin’ up tomatoes for the pasta sauce.

Dip’s done! Keep Emma away, she’ll eat it all.

Megan brough seared ahi wontons with avocado salsa. I’m SO making that.

Emma’s salmon. I didn’t know the bitch could cook, but apparently, she can! Go Em!

My Shrimpy Pasta

Bacon wrapped asparagus, son! By the time it came out the oven, I’m pretty sure there was more bacon than asparagus. I’m not complaining, just stating fact.

That was good.

This is what good wine will do to ya.

All in all, I say it was a very successful dinner party. And with me moving (Oh shit, did I tell you I’m moving? I’m moving) to my own spot, I’m sure we’ll have many more, but I’ll have to clean up after, so that sucks.

Yay, food and friends!

PS. Sorry for all the macro shots. I had wine, remember?

whine and cheese fridays

8/02/2008

… also known as WAC Fridays. It’s been a couple months since we’ve done it, but alas, it was one of those days.

whineandcheese

One brings the wine. One brings the cheese. And we ALL bring the WHINE.

Today was good old garlic and cheese spread, some camembert, those ranch pretzel thingies and some garlic melba toasts (i never said we were high class). Our wines of choice were Pinot Noir and … some other red one.

Again, happy whine and cheese Friday.
